IMPORTANCE OF SUNNAH IN ISLAM by Rakibul Islam Salafi

IMPORTANCE OF SUNNAH IN ISLAM
Mumbai, India
All the praises and thanks be to ALLAH, the most gracious, the most merciful. May ALLAH guide us to the straightway and Mohammed (peace be upon him) the last Prophet of Allah and we are his followers. The Sunnah is the second source of Islamic beliefs and laws, the first being The Quran. The Sunnah is an explanation or interpretation of the Quran. It has been ordered by the Quran to follow the Sunnah of the Prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him) and it is obligatory to carry out the instruction given in the Sunnah, the Holy Quran say:

وَمَا آتَاكُمُ الرَّسُولُ فَخُذُوهُ وَمَا نَهَاكُمْ عَنْهُ فَانتَهُوا وَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ إِنَّ اللَّهَ شَدِيدُ الْعِقَابِ
(Surah Al Hashr: 59:7)

The Messenger (Mohammed peace be upon him) has given you, take it; and what so ever he forbidden you, refrain (from it). and fear ALLAH; verily. ALLAH is severe in punishment.

The definition of Sunnah:

In dictionary: Habit, Way.
Translation: "Sunnah is the Prophet's saying, his deeds and what his followers did, to which he showed no objection." (Kitab Al Tarifat: page no.195)

Necessity of Sunnah to understand by The Quran:

Sunnah is very necessary to understand the Holy Quran. We must learn the Sunnah because the Sunnah is an explanation to the Holy Quran. (Sanabil 2010-11 Page No.10) as ALLAH says:

وَالسَّارِقُ وَالسَّارِقَةُ فَاقْطَعُواْ أَيْدِيَهُمَا جَزَاء بِمَا كَسَبَا نَكَالاً مِّنَ اللَّهِ وَاللَّهُ عَزِيزٌ حَكِيمٌ
(Surah Al Maidah: 5: 38)

The male thief and the female thief cut off (from the wrist joint) their (right) hands.

The oral tradition explains the first of them and restricts it by "As-Sareq" (the thief) who steals something worth a fourth of dinar according to the saying of the Prophet (peace be upon him) there is no cutting of the hand, unless the thing stolen is worth a fourth of dinar or Morse. (Bukhari Hadeeth No-6789/ Muslim Hadeeth No.1684). There are many verses that cannot be completely understood except through Sunnah.
They are:
الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ وَلَمْ يَلْبِسُواْ إِيمَانَهُم بِظُلْمٍ أُوْلَئِكَ لَهُمُ الأَمْنُ وَهُم مُّهْتَدُونَ
(Surah Al Anam: 6: 83)

It is whose who believe and confuse not their beliefs with wrong. "Dhulm" that are (truly) in security for they are on (right) guidance.

The companions of the Prophet (peace be upon him) understood the word "Dhulm" in its general sense to mean every wrong doing. Even if it be a little. On this account the verse is regarded as dubious and they said: O Messenger of ALLAH, which of us did not involve his faith with obscurity? “He (peace be upon him) said, it is not that. It is only the "Shirk".

The Deviation of those who are satisfied with the Quran to the exclusion of Hadeeth:

It is a matter of regret that one renowned scholar has written a book on Islamic law and its dogma, and in its preface, He says that he has written it and that he has made reference only to the Quran.

This true Hadeeth gives positive evidence that divine law of Islam-as- Sharia-, is not merely Quran but Quran and Sunnah.
Therefore, whoever holds fast to one source for reference to the exclusion of the other. He held fast to neither of them. Since both complement each other. The Quran says whoever obeys the
Obeys ALLAH, ALLAH says:

فَلاَ وَرَبِّكَ لاَ يُؤْمِنُونَ حَتَّىَ يُحَكِّمُوكَ فِيمَا شَجَرَ بَيْنَهُمْ۔۔۔
(Sura Al Nisa 4:65)

I did not find what you have said "He told her: If you have read it, you would have found it. As for your reading what the messenger teaches you take it and what he forbids you avoid to doing it." She said: certainly. He said: I have heard the Messenger of ALLAH (peace be upon him) Say, May ALLAH'S curse be on the al-namisat."
(Bukhari Hadith no.5931/ Muslim Hadith No.2125).

In the last I pray to ALLAH to give us ability and capacity to understand and perform everything according to the Quran and Hadeeth.

(Aamin)
